Comments by Al Durtschi, the web page author:

The first thing that struck me about the Mainstay 3600 was it's size. It was larger than what I had expected, measuring 6 3/8 by 5 1/2 inches and 1 1/8 inch thick, weighing 1 1/2 lbs. The vacuum packed foil bag contains 9 square bars which each could be considered a 'meal.' We just broke one open and tried it. The flavor was like lemon cake. Each of the 9 little 400 calorie bars were solid yet crumbled fairly easily when bitten on. I ate the one bar about 1/2 hour ago. You need to drink water after you eat this thing as it expands in your stomach. It does give you a full feeling after a while. On the label they suggest eating two of these individual bars per day if by sea and 3 if by land. This is definitely not enough calories to keep you going long term without some serious weight loss, but would keep you alive during an extended emergency.

I'd suggest having two or three of these around for the trunk of the car, your boat or in your bug out bag. And for those of you who have thought this far ahead, this could also be really nice in a 'cache' along a bug-out route.

Living off them for an extended period of time, in my opinion, would really be the pits. But like anything else, they have their time and place.
